Clear Lake High School Student Awarded Star Author Trophy

On Saturday, November 1, Houston non-profit literacy organization, READ3Zero hosted their 5th Anniversary Luncheon and Book Signing event at the Hilton Americas in Downtown Houston. The Keynote Speaker was Neil Bush, while philanthropist and literacy advocate Deborah Duncan of KHOU 11’s, Great Day Houston was Emcee for the program. Clear Creek ISD is proud to announce, Clear Lake High School student, Richard Wu was awarded with a Star Author Trophy, recognizing his story, Super Billy Learns to Fly, as being one out of six exceptionally published stories in the anthology, I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids.  Richard will be interviewed on local Houston radio station, 104.1 KRBE for his achievements. The interview is scheduled to air Sunday morning at 6 a.m. on November 16.

The READ3Zero event included an entire morning dedicated to celebrating the literary achievements of this year’s 59 published student authors and illustrators from across the country. It kicked off with a reception and awards ceremony, followed by the luncheon, where Neil Bush shared his personal triumphs in education with Deborah Duncan and 350 guests. The event came to a close with a massive book signing of the I Write Short Stories by Kids for Kids Anthologies.

READ3Zero founder and Children’s Author Melissa Williams said, “Our goal this year was to make sure each of our 59 authors and illustrators felt important, which is why each of them received awards, multiple acknowledgments and their own box of business cards.” To learn more about READ3zero visit www.read3zero.org.

Richard Wu also won a National PTA Reflections award for his short story. He is a senior at Clear Lake High School.
