Jeff Larson

Jeff Larson

Your Full Name: Jeffery A. Larson

Years in CCISD: 32

Subdivision/Neighborhood: Heritage Park

Occupation: Aerospace Consultant

Spouse's Name: Janette Larson

Children: Jennifer Larson

Why did you choose to live in CCISD?
Proximity to my work with NASA's Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center.

Are you currently a CCISD volunteer? If so, what school(s)?
Not currently

List your participation in CCISD schools and/or district parent clubs, business partnerships and/or committees:
None currently, but as an independent business owner I would be happy to participate in a partnership if the district felt it would be helpful (and provided there was no conflict of interest with service on the Board of Trustees).

Include any other areas in which you have supported CCISD not included in the previous question:
I've supported CCISD as a taxpayer, advocate, and parent during the 32 years I've lived in the district.

List any community organizations in which you are currently involved in, including any offices currently or previously held:
Past President, Houston L-5 Society
Former Board Member, Texas Railroad Preservation Association
Panelist for Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership
Treasurer, Republican Liberty Caucus, and former Chairman, Texas Chapter
Secretary, Foreign Policy Alliance (formerly Houston Foreign Policy Alliance)

Considering your skills and talents, what positive contribution would you make as a member of the Board of Trustees?
I have a unique perspective as someone who 1) is a STEM professional with an advanced STEM degree, 2) is the parent of a child who benefitted from both the CCISD WAVE program and from attending Clear Horizons Early College High School, and 3) has a good relationship with our elected officials that includes experience working with them to advocate for our community. I believe I would be a good fit for several Board of Trustee committees.

What roles do trustees play in affecting student success?
Trustees provide leadership, set policy, and manage the budget to meet the needs of students and the district. They uphold the culture and values of the community.

What critical challenges face the district, and what are possible solutions to address those issues?
The challenges that face the district are simultaneously meeting state and federal oversight requirements while finding ways to increase student performance, all in a climate where state funding is decreasing and property tax levels are threatened.
