Disaster Victims

Tax Code Section 31.032
allows homeowners and some small businesses whose property is
located in a disaster area; and was damaged as a direct result of a Governor Declared Disaster to pay their taxes in four installments without incurring penalty and interest. This option is only available to qualified Governor Declared Disaster Victims.

Property owners are required to declare & document repaired and un-repaired damage and sign an installment agreement for each qualified property.   The property must be used as a residence or small business.  Vacant land and/or mineral accounts and most businesses do not qualify.  If you are unsure, you may call the tax office for details at (281) 284-0218.   Terms, deadline and conditions apply

We strongly suggest that you contact your mortgage company of your intent to make payments before you enter the agreement. The mortgage company may submit a payment on your behalf which will increase your monthly house payment and they may request proof the property has been repaired.

Submitting a payment without a signed declaration of damage or on an unqualified property does not constitute a formal installment plan. Penalty and interest will be assessed without a signed agreement.
