National Merit Semifinalists Announced from Clear Creek ISD
Posted on 09/25/2019
National MeritOfficials of the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC) recently announced the Semifinalists in the 2020 National Merit Scholarship Program. Out of 16,000 academically talented high school seniors from across the country that received this honor, 17 of them are students from Clear Brook High School, Clear Creek High School, Clear Falls High School, Clear Horizons Early College High School, Clear Lake High School and Clear Springs High School.

The nationwide pool of Semifinalists, representing less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors, includes the highest-scoring entrants in each state from scores obtained from taking the Preliminary SAT and National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. These students will now advance to the Finalist level of competition where they must submit a detailed scholarship application, in which they provide information about academic record, participation in school and community activities, demonstrated leadership abilities, employment, honors and awards received, among other qualifications.

Over 90 percent of the Semifinalists are expected to attain Finalist standing in February 2020, and about half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar® title, beginning in April 2020. The students are competing for some 7,600 National Merit Scholarships totaling more than $31 million.
