Rodeo DayThe sights and sounds of Western heritage filled the halls of Parr Elementary during Rodeo Day on September 13, 2019. This event is coordinated through an initiative with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (HLSR) Speakers Committee to kick of rodeo season throughout Houston-area schools.

Students of all ages were treated to a day full of learning as they rotated through different areas of the school in their best western attire. The stations, which were led by HLSR volunteers, included western dancing, cowgirl history, rodeo cuisine, barrel racing and more.

“My favorite part was learning about the history of country music and them teaching us how to line dance,” said fifth grade student Shelby Mackenroth. “I definitely learned a lot about different parts of the rodeo today and had so much fun.”

Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has been promoting agriculture by providing a family-friendly live entertainment experience that educates the public, supports Texas youth and showcases Western traditions. The Rodeo will be held from March 3-22, 2020, at NRG Park.
