The Clear Creek Independent School District has partnered with OverDrive and Harris County Public Library to obtain the rights to Sora, a reading app that allows students to borrow ebooks and audiobooks online for free.

“This is really great for our students because it opens up so many doors for digital reading,” said Director of Library Media Services Suzy Ferrell. “It will also be a great resource for our Clear Connections Online Learning Program teachers to expand on reading options for students at home.”

Students can access the app by logging in to CCISD’s single sign-on portal, clicking the “library resources” tab at the top, and then finding the Sora app. Within the app, students will have two different options to search for age-appropriate books and audiobooks through the Clear Creek ISD resource page and the Harris County Public Library page. Sora can be used on any device and borrowed books can also be downloaded so students can access them without having to be connected to the internet.

“The library and English language arts department collaborated last year to bring these digital products to our students, recognizing that having increased access to reading materials is necessary for their academic success and develops their passion and interest as lifelong readers,” said Ferrell.

CCISD Learning Technology leaders are hosting a virtual “Lunch and Learn” training session for parents on the Sora app at 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 21. The meeting will be available for playback after the session ends. Click here for the meeting link.
